Health Information:

to determine if any vaccines are necessary before you
travel to Guatemala.

Trip will be led by John Gates.

In addition to the trip fee each participant will need:

~Transportation to Guatemala City.  All participants
will be informed of the hotel meeting place in 
Guatemala City.
~Valid passport with an expiration date of 10/1/12 or later.
~Travel insurance that covers health & emergency
evacuation.  
~Approximately $200 to cover extra food and 
souvenirs.
~To consult the CDC website or talk with your doctor to determine
if any vaccines are necessary before traveling to Guatemala.

Arrive Guatemala City
Possible Visit to Archaeology Museum
Lodging in Guatemala City

Travel to Coban (4.5 hrs travel time)
Meet with Catholic priest who serves Santa Elena.  
Lodging in Coban
8/7
Travel to Copal AA, a Maya community of 800.
Meet with community development committee.
Receive assignment for family stay (3 nights)
8/8 
Visit middle school and women’s weaving coop 
Meet with school committee
8/9 
Visit Copal AA agricultural parcelas
8/10
Travel to Santa Elena (2 hrs)
2 mile walk into community - people fromSanta Elena will help with back packs.  
Meet with Community Development Committee
Receive assignment for family stay (4 nights)

Visit Cantabal (1.5 hrs)
Visit Market Place
Meet with farmers’ coop director and representative of Catholic Social Action Organization
Return to Santa Elena

Visit churches and parcelas in Santa Elena
Meet with school committee

Visit school.  
Opportunity to work with children teaching English through songs and games

Return to Coban 
Opportunity to wash clothes
Visit orchid, coffee or tea farm
Lodging in Coban

Meet with Santiago Choc Cu, lawyer working
on human rights abuse cases in Guatemala
